What is a Growhouse?
A Growhouse is a home or office that has been set up to cultivate marijuana plants. Becuase this is illegal, these setups are normally concealed and unregulated. Often, the operators weill purchase (or rent) a house to set up the operation. As they are not interested in keeping the house long term, the house is often renovated in such a manner as to cause structural problems. In addition, harsh chemicals and fertilizers are used, stored, and spilled in the house.
Sick Building Solutions specializes in inspecting and cleaning former grow operations.
Growhouse Cleanup and Inspection
Unfortunately, once a growhouse has been identified and closed down, the problems don't end there. During most operations, hazardous chemicals, such as fertilizers, and pesticides are used. This means that there could be contimination of the walls, carpets, and even ceilings.
However, one of the most serious problems that occur during a grow operation is mould growth. Because the marijuana plants required large amounts of both heat and water, the condtions that are created resemble a tropical rainforest. While this might be good for the rainforest, it's not what you want in a home. These conditions lead to mould growth in all parts of the home, not just the usual areas of basement and attic.
The good news is that it's usually not to hard to clean up the mould. Once the operation has been shut down and the humidity drops to normal levels, the mouls growth will slow or stop. All that's left is to clean up the existing infestation and ensure that there are no other moisture sources that may lead to continued growth.
